This June the Manitoba Ombudsman released their review of our EIA Program with 68 recommendations to improve the program. Find out what the improvements are, discuss what is most important to you, and how to help ensure the government implements the report recommendations.

October | Caretaker Training workshops

Caretaker Training

Every Wednesday for October 2010 - 1 to 3 PM
• Basic communication skills learn how to talk tenants in a non con-frontational voice.
• Working with tenants with mental health issues.
• Basic maintenance and repairs.
• Hands on learning fixing holes in drywall plastering, changing dead bolts and door knobs.
• Taping and mudding.

S.N.A. will run the same series For the month of November on Wed. afternoon from 1 to 3pm
Participants will receive:
• a small honorarium and
• certificate upon completion of all four workshops.

A series of workshops designed to educate and em¬power caretakers and build¬ing managers from the Spence neighbourhood.
This course will increase caretakers understanding of the law, provide caretakers with tools in their dealings with tenants and teach some basic maintenance skills.
Caretakers will learn skills which will make them better at their jobs.

Aug. 17 & 18 | Housing workshops for newcomers

New Journey Housing is offering the following free workshops:

The Home Ownership Workshop is for people who are thinking of buying a home. We will discuss the advantages, disadvantages and the costs, as well as explaining what a mortgage is and what the bank needs to know in order to give you one.

Workshop Date:
- in English - Wednesday, August 18th 9:30 am to 11:30 a.m.


The Rental Workshop will explain renting in Winnipeg, the Residential Tenancies Branch (RTB), tenant and llandlord rights and responsibilities, and how to keep an apartment.

- in English- Tuesday, August 17th 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.


The Budgeting Workshop helps people to take a close look at the money coming into the home and then how it is being spent. It looks at goal setting and how that can help you plan for your future.

-in English- Wednesday, August 18th 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
