Dr. Hughes research and publications concentrate on marginalized populations with a focus on mental health issues, employ multiple methods, and are interdisciplinary, community-based, and participatory in nature. Dr. Hughes has led several national projects, through the Canadian Mental Health Association, around housing and home care for people with mental illness. All of Dr. Hughes’ research around marginalized populations is highly connected to her advocacy work.
